CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Brodie MacArthur is tied for the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s all-time points lead.

The 20-year-old Summerside native’s goal 3:21 into the first period Friday night gave him 352 career points to match Duane Saulnier’s record from the 1980s.

The goal came in the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals’ 6-5 overtime loss to the host Grand Falls Rapids.

Nash Smith scored the winner 48 seconds into the extra frame on the power play. It was his second of the night. Miguel Pare, Adam Fowlow, Drew Toner and Evan Jackson also scored for the Rapids. Montague’s Zac Arsenault is a defenceman with the Rapids.

Riley MacDougall led the Caps with two goals and an assist while Josh MacDonald had the vistors’ other marker. Marc-Andre LeCouffe had two assists while Kallum Muirhead, Cam Roberts and Nick Reeves each chipped in one.

Tyriq Outen stopped 31 shots for the win while Alec MacVicar made 30 saves in the loss.

The game was tied 2-2 and 4-4 after the first and second periods, respectively. Grand Falls was 2-for-3 on the power play while Summerside was 1-for-4.

Grand Falls improved to 15-28-2-3. Charlottetown’s Brad MacKenzie is the head coach of the Rapids while Islanders Morgan MacDonald and Nick Tremere are his assistants.

The Capitals, who clinched the regular season title Thursday, are 39-6-1-2.

MacArthur will have a chance to break the points record when the Rapids visit Credit Union Place on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m.
