Lightning defeats Storm in NBL action in Ontario

LONDON, Ont. — Garrett Williamson had 30 points and 11 assists to pace the London Lightning to a 131-122 victory over the Island Storm Thursday in National Basketball League of Canada action.

Xavier Moon had 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Lightning on home court. A.J. Gaines also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Omar Strong and Randy Phillips had 28 and 20 points, respectively, off the bench for the Lightning.

Johnathan Loyd had 29 points, 10 assists and four rebounds to lead the Storm while Alex Campbell had 24 points. Nathaniel Wright and Marcus Lewis chipped in 18 and 12 points, respectively, off the bench.

The Lightning held 37-32, 75-62 and 107-94 quarter leads.

London shot better from the field (56-51 per cent) while the Storm held the advantage from downtown (43-41) and the free-throw line (87-79).

The Lightning (7-1) leads the Central Division while the Storm (5-4) remains in second place in the Atlantic Division.

The Storm, which is 0-2 on their Ontario road trip, plays the Windsor Express Friday at 8 p.m. Atlantic and completes the trip Sunday at 3 p.m. in Sudbury.
