MONCTON, N.B. — Prince Edward Island’s two major midget teams were eliminated from play at the Monctonian Challenge in their first playoff game Saturday night.
Wild
The defending champion Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild lost 4-2 to the Cape Breton West Islanders Saturday morning to finish the preliminary round 2-1. They lost 5-3 to the Cole Harbour Wolfpack in playoff action Saturday night.
The playoff game was tied 1-1 after the first period while the Wolfpack took a 2-1 lead heading to the third.
Donovan Arsenault scored all three of the Wild’s goals against the Wolfpack. Reid Vos had two assists while singles went to Reid Peardon and Duncan Picketts. Josh Smith took the loss.
Knights
The Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights played Weeks from Nova Scotia twice on Saturday.
The Knights won the first game 2-1 to finish the preliminary round 2-1 before losing 3-2 in the playoff matchup.
Weeks scored three goals in the second period to take a 3-0 lead to the third.
Simon Hughes and Landon MacDonald scored for the Knights with Nolan Stewart, Marshall Gallant and captain Max Chisholm recording an assist. Jack Howatt took the loss.
All four of the Knights games were decided by one goal.
League play
The Wild (9-4-2-0) resumes New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League action Saturday by hosting the Northern Moose (7-6-1-0) at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Moncton to play the first-place Flyers (15-1-0-0) Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
The Knights (5-9-2-0) next game is Saturday, Nov. 30 in Sydney, N.S.
Minor midget
The Sherwood Drug Mart Central Attack went 1-2 in the minor midget division and didn’t qualify for the playoffs in the eight-team tournament.
