CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Mitchell Kinch from Tyne Valley won the 2019 P.E.I. Power Strongman title at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown recently.
The first annual competition consisted of five events – max deadlift; farmer’s walk (250 pounds per hand); tire flip (700 pounds); truck pull (18,000 pounds) and Atlas stones (ranging from 120 to 355 pounds).
The 30-year-old Kinch, who is six-foot-six and 290 pounds, won two events – the truck pull and farmer’s walk. Kinch finished second in the tire flip and Atlas stones and fifth in the max deadlift.
Troy MacCallum finished second overall, placing first in the Atlas stones, second in the farmer’s walk, tied for second in the deadlift, fifth in the truck pull and fifth in the tire flip. The 46-year-old MacCallum, who is from York, is six-foot-four and 335 pounds.
Morgan Ellis finished third overall, finishing second in the truck pull, tied for second in the deadlift, third in the farmer’s walk, third in the tire flip and fifth in the Atlas stones. Ellis, who is from Kingston, is 30-years-old, stands six-foot-one and weighs 260 pounds.
Alberton’s Mitchell Illsley finished fourth overall and placed first in the tire flip.
Charlottetown’s Jordan Dukart finished fifth overall, placing first in the max deadlift.
Charlottetown’s Zane Nicholson finished sixth, Tignish’s Jake Dwyer was seventh, Charlottetown’s Darrell Warren came in eighth and Charlottetown’s Naeem Rohani finished in ninth place.
Alex Wallace, a seven-time P.E.I. Strongman champion, judged the event.
