SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild is 0-2 (won-lost) at the 2019 CCM Challenge midget AAA hockey tournament in Chicoutimi, Que.
After dropping a 6-0 decision to the Trois-Riviéres Estacades on Wednesday, the Wild fell 5-2 to Laval-Montreal on Thursday afternoon. Kensington will conclude round-robin play against Lac-St-Louis on Friday.
After being outshot 50-22 against Trois-Riviéres, it was a similar story versus Laval-Montreal, which held an overall shots-on-goal advantage of 46-11. That included period cushions of 13-4, 19-1 and 14-6.
Laval-Montreal led 1-0 after the first period and extended that to 3-0 after two. The Wild answered back with two goals off the sticks of veteran forwards Dixon MacLeod and Landon Clow to make it a 3-2 game at 11:45 of the third period, but Laval-Montreal scored two late goals to put the game out of reach.
MacLeod’s goal was unassisted and Sam MacNeill assisted on Clow’s tally.
Jonah Arbing turned in a 41-save effort in goal for the Wild, members of the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League.
MacLeod was named the Wild’s player of the game.
