Kensington loses 8-5 in Saint John, N.B., in major midget play

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — The host Saint John Vitos scored four goals in the second period to defeat the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild 8-5 Friday in New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League action.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while the home side took a 5-3 lead to the third.

Carter McCluskey had two goal and three assists to pace the Vitos attack while Jack Dickie and Kiefer Lyons each scored a pair of goals. Jack Kyle had a goal and two helpers while Aiden Arsenault rounded out the scoring for Saint John.

Austin Arsenault had two goal while Alex Graham had a goal and an assist for the Wild. Will Proud and Donovan Arsenault also scored. Sam MacNeill had two assists while singles went to Matt McQuaid, Kieran Rennie, Duncan Picketts and Landon Clow.

Frederic Plourde stopped 44 shots in the victory. Josh Smith allowed five goals on 26 shots in 36 minutes for the Wild while Jonah Arbing made 11 saves on 13 in 23 minutes of relief.

Saint John went 4-for-8 on the power play while Kensington was 2-for-10.

The Vitos improved to 7-12-0 while the Wild is 10-5-2. Kensington plays the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights (5-10-2) tonight at 7 p.m. at MacLauchlan Arena.
