Prince Edward Island hockey teams begin play Wednesday at the Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament in Halifax.
It is one of the top tournaments for major midget and major bantam squads of the season.
The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild (16-7-2-0) plays the Halifax McDonalds Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the 21-team major midget division. They play the Cole Harbour Wolfpack Thursday at 9 p.m. and the South Shore Mustangs Friday at 5 p.m. They are the three-leading teams in the Nova Scotia major midget circuit.
The Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights (7-16-3-0) begin play Thursday at 11 a.m. against the minor midget Selects from Nova Scotia.
The Knights complete the round-robin portion Friday by playing the Cape Breton West Islanders at 11:30 a.m. and the Sydney Rush at 7:30 p.m.
The Central Attack (14-6-0-0) begins the 27-team major bantam division competition by playing the South Shore Lumberjacks Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. They play the Valley Wildcats Thursday at 11:15 a.m. and the Dartmouth Whalers Friday at 8:45 p.m.
The Eastern Express (13-6-0-0) opens play Wednesday against The Novas at 1:15 p.m. before playing the Bedford Barons Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and the Truro Bearcats Friday at 12:45 p.m.
The Mid-Isle Matrix (2-16-2-0) plays the Tri-Pen Ice from Newfoundland and Labrador Thursday at 1:15 p.m. and the Joneljim Cougars at 8:45 p.m. before finishing the preliminary round against the Northern Blackhawks Friday at 7:15 p.m.
The Prince County Warriors (4-12-2-2) play the Ice Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., the Cole Harbour Storm Thursday at 7:15 p.m. and the Cougars Friday at 5:15 p.m.
The tournament concludes Sunday.
