CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Former Charlottetown Islanders goalie Antoine Bibeau has signed with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The NHL team announced the addition on Thursday.
It is a one-year, two-way contract that pays Bibeau $700,000 at the NHL level or $75,000 in the American Hockey League (AHL).
"Antoine is coming off a hip injury, but is fully healthy now," said Carolina GM and president Don Waddell. "He's a veteran netminder with some NHL experience and adds to the depth of our organization at that position."
The 26-year-old Victoriaville, Que., native played two games with the Colorado Avalanche in 2019-20 after being acquired in a trade for former Islanders' defenceman Nicolas Meloche in September 2019. Bibeau was 1-0 with a 3.27 goals-against average for the Avalanche.
Bibeau played for the P.E.I. Rocket/Islanders from 2011-12 to December 2013 when he was traded to the Val-d'Or Foreurs. He won the Guy Lafleur trophy as the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's playoff MVP after leading Val d'Or to the 2014 President Cup championship.
Maxime Lagace, who shared the Rocket crease with Bibeau, recently signed a one-year $700,000 contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The 27-year-old Saint-Augustin, Que., native played with the AHL's Providence Bruins last season. He went 22-7-3 with a 2.37 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage and five shutouts.
He has played 17 NHL games, all with the Vegas Golden Knights.
