KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — It has been a busy first half for Charlie DesRoches with the Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School (KISH) athletic program.
The 17-year-old son of Randy and Lisa DesRoches of Kensington has been selected as KISH’s Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month.
A big reason for his selection, noted KISH athletic director Jonathon McAvinn, is his willingness to do whatever is needed for his teams. An example of that, explained McAvinn, was Charlie stepping up to play goal for the senior A boys’ soccer team in the fall.
“Charlie backstopped the team by volunteering to be keeper when there was no one available,” added McAvinn.
Charlie is currently a centre on the school’s senior A boys’ basketball team, which will host the Aidan Harrington Memorial basketball tournament this weekend.
“Charlie is a quiet leader that always comes prepared to play,” said McAvinn. “With a positive attitude, he was respectful of his team, officials and the opposing players.
“He is always in attendance at practices and games and Charlie has the respect of his coaches and teammates.”
Following graduation from high school in June, Charlie hopes to attend UPEI and study psychology.
