SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — It was another exciting rivalry game on Friday night between the Summerside Cooke Insurance Clippers and Cornwall Timberwolves.
The two teams met before a big crowd at Eric Johnston Field in an important P.E.I. Papa John’s P.E.I. Varsity Tackle Football League game that had huge implications on the standings. With the Timberwolves defeating the Clippers 22-14 in Cornwall in Week 2, this was a must-win game for Summerside to maintain its hopes of finishing the regular season in first place.
The Clippers responded with a 22-0 win to move into a tie atop the four-team league standings with the Timberwolves. Both teams are now 4-1 (won-lost).

Set the tone
The Clippers’ defence – for the third straight game – continued to set the tone while the offence slowly improves.
An example of the Clippers’ defence providing momentum swings included interceptions by Brayden Lawless and Finn Turner, along with a fumble recovery by Nathan Enman.
Offensively, the Clippers’ ground attack led the way as running back Mike Friesen scored two rushing touchdowns – a three-yard score in the first half and a game-clinching 40-yard run in the fourth quarter. Summerside quarterback Nic Gunning added a two-yard score on the ground.
The Clippers, who led 15-0 at halftime, will close out the regular season in Charlottetown on Sunday against the Privateers at 3 p.m.
