Applications are available for this year’s Curling Canada’s 2020 For the Love of Curling scholarship program.

Ten $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to male and female curlers in Canada who best demonstrate athletic and academic prowess as well as community leadership.

As part of the application, the young athletes are asked to write a two-page essay, and this year’s theme will focus on the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic. The essay should reflect how the curler, their team and curling community were impacted.

Athletes must be under the age of 24 as of Dec. 31, 2020, and not have previously received the scholarship.

Karlee Burgess of Truro, N.S., and Lauren Lenentine of New Dominion, who were teammates on the world junior championship squad skipped by Mackenzie Zacharias, are previous recipients of the scholarship.

The application process runs from May 1to June 30 with the scholarships being awarded in August. More information is at curling.ca/scholarship2020.
