Sidney Crosby will miss a minimum of six weeks after undergoing surgery on Thursday to repair a sports hernia.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain had been dealing with the core muscle injury since training camp, the NHL team said in a news release. He had 17 points in 17 games to lead the team in scoring.
The procedure was performed by Dr. William Meyers of the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia.
