CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Felix-Antoine Marcotty and Vladislav Kotkov each scored twice Saturday at the Eastlink Centre as the Chicoutimi Sagueneens showed why they are one of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s top teams.
The Sagueneens held 3-1 and 6-1 period leads en route to thumping the Charlottetown Islanders 8-2. The visitors played the game without sniper Dawson Mercer, who helped Canada win the world junior championship, and centre Hendrix Lapierre, who was the top pick of the 2018 league draft.
Felix Bibeau had a goal and an assist in the win while Patrick Kyte, Luke Wilson and Xavier Labrecque (shorthanded) also scored. Raphael Lavoie and Christopher Farmer each chipped in two assists for the winners.
Thomas Casey had a goal and an assist for the home side before 3,000 people at the Eastlink Centre while Ethan Crossman scored against his former team. Defenceman Oscar Plandowski, who was a first-round pick of Chicoutimi in June, had two assists while Nikita Alexandrov chipped in one.
Alexis Shank stopped 26 shots for the win while Matthew Welsh allowed eight goals on 33 shots in the loss.
The Sagueneens (29-7-4-0) lead the Eastern Conference while the Islanders (22-16-5-0) have dropped three straight and sit in fifth. Charlottetown travelled to Halifax Saturday night and will pla the Mooseheads (16-20-2-1) Sunday at 3 p.m. in Halifax. Defenceman Lukas Cormier is out for today's game with a Charley horse.
