Charlottetown Islanders earn comeback victory over Halifax Moosheads

The Charlottetown Islanders spotted the Halifax Mooseheads a four-goal lead before storming back for a 6-4 victory Sunday at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.

The come-from-behind Quebec Major Junior Hockey League victory increased the Isles win streak to nine games.

Markus Vidicek, Senna Peeters, Elliot Desnoyers and Cam Whynot gave the host Herd a 4-0 lead eight minutes into the second period.

Patrick Guay and Brendan McCarthy scored 31 seconds apart to cut the deficit in half before the second intermission.

Cédric Desruisseaux and Drew Elliott then scored 44 seconds apart to tie it two minutes into the third. Desruisseaux completed the comeback by scoring with 1:52 left and captain Brett Budgell iced the game with an empty-net goal.

Thomas Casey had three assists, Bailey Peach and Budgell each had two while singles went to Zac Beauregard, Oscar Plandowski, Will Trudeau and Guay.

The top line of Desruisseaux, Casey and Budgell each extended their point streaks. Budgell is at 11 while the overage wingers are each at 13.

Landon Miron, Justin Barron, Vidicek, Desnoyers and Peeters each had an assist for Halifax.

Colten Ellis made 26 saves for the win while Brady James allowed five goals on 45 shots in the loss.

The Mooseheads held 1-0 and 4-2 period leads. Halifax was 1-for-6 on the power play while Charlottetown was 1-for-4.

The Islanders improved 24-4-0-0 while Halifax fell to 11-15-3-3.

The Islanders host the Cape Breton Eagles (11-17-1-0) Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
