Central eliminates Western from midget AAA hockey playoffs

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Matt Power scored the winner Tuesday as the Sherwood Drug Mart Central Attack eliminated the Western Regals with a 5-4 victory at Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown.

The Attack won the Prince Edward Island Midget AAA Hockey League best-of-five semifinal 3-1 and will play the Robin’s Mid-Isle Matrix in the best-of-five final. The top-ranked Matrix swept the Kings County Kings in its semifinal. No schedule has been released for the championship series.

Power had two goals and an assist on Tuesday while captain Justin Richard had a goal and an assist. Matthew Dunn and Bates Ling also scored in the victory. John MacKinnon had two assists while Owen Matheson, Damiyan Boyle and Noah Dow each contributed one.

Chandler DesRoches had two goals and an assist to lead the Regals while Kennedy Gallant also scored twice. Brett Ballum had two helpers while singles were credited to Kalim DesRoches, Colby Baker, Cole Hemphill, Michael McRae and Connor Ellsworth.

Aidan Rose earned the win. Turner Ellis started for the Regals and played the first half of the game before Nylan Hustler entered the game.

The Attack held 2-1 and 4-2 period leads. Gallant scored midway through the third to cut the deficit to one. Power scored 2:38 later to restore the two-goal lead before Chandler DesRoches scored with 1:43 to play.

Western was 1-for-2 on the power play while Central was 1-for-4.
