EDMUNDSTON, N.B. — The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals earned the four points they were looking for from a weekend trip to Edmundston, N.B.
The Caps defeated the Blizzard 5-4 in a shootout Sunday to complete the weekend sweep.
Josh MacDonald scored the shootout winner while Dominik Tmej stopped five of six shooters.
Colby MacArthur had two goals for the Capitals in regulation while captain Brodie MacArthur and Marc Richard also found the back of the net. Marc-Andre LeCouffe had two assists while singles went to Zach Biggar, Bennett MacArthur, Kallum Muirhead, Zach Thususka and Gionluca Fuoco.
Tristan Gagnon had a goal and three assists while Chrystopher Collin had two goals and an assist and Brock McLeod three helpers to pace the home side. Mitch McLeod also scored for the Blizzard.
Tmej stopped 39 shots in regulation and overtime while Antoine Lyonnais made 48 saves in the loss.
Summerside went 2-for-6 on the power play and killed all five of Edmundston’s chances with the man advantage. The game was tied 3-3 after the first period and 4-4 heading to the third.
The Capitals improved to 17-3-0-0 while the Blizzard is 13-6-0-0. Summerside hosts the Grand Falls Rapids (7-10-2-1) Thursday at 7 p.m.
