CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Brett Budgell scored a hat trick and added an assist to spark the Charlottetown Islanders to a 6-1 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres on Friday night.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game attracted 2,210 fans to Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
Charlottetown native Thomas Casey also had a four-point night for the Islanders, scoring once and adding three helpers.
Cedric Desruisseaux (1-1) and Brendon Clavelle (1-1) rounded out the scoring for Charlottetown, which will take a 27-21-5 (won-lost-overtime losses) record into Saturday’s home game against the league-leading Sherbrooke Phoenix (38-8-4) at 7 p.m.
Anthony Poulin netted the lone goal for the Tigres (20-23-9).
Charlottetown, which went 3-for-4 on the power play, jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period and extended that margin to 6-0 after the second. Victoriaville was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
Overall, the Islanders held a 34-24 shots-on-goal advantage. Matthew Welsh earned the goaltending win.
