SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — University of New Hampshire (UNH) goaltender Ava Boutilier has been named the Hockey East defensive player of the week for the second time this season.
Boutilier, who is from Charlottetown, backstopped the Wildcats to a 2-0-0 weekend in conference play. It is the program's best Hockey East start since the 2010-11 season.
Boutilier began her weekend with a 23-save shutout in a 2-0 victory over UConn. She followed that up with a 27-save performance in a 4-2 home-ice win against 10th-ranked Boston University (BU).
Boutilier completed weekend play with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.
UNH's win over BU was the program's first home victory over the Terriers since the 2012 season. Since then, the Wildcats' only victory over BU came in the 2017 playoffs in Game 2 of the best-of-three series.
Boutilier and the Wildcats return to action this weekend on the road as they travel to Burlington, Vermont, on Friday evening to face the Catamounts. They have a quick turnaround as they face No. 3 Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena in Boston.
