MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Prince Edward Island scored a 9-8 victory in 11 ends over Rachel Homan’s Ontario rink Sunday for its second win of the day at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
The Suzanne Birt-skipped rink from the Montague Curling Club is 2-1 after two days of action at the national women’s curling championship in Moose Jaw, Sask. They play the wild card entry, skipped by Jennifer Jones, Monday at 8:30 p.m. Atlantic before meeting Newfoundland and Labrador Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
Ontario took a 3-2 lead with a single in the fourth before the teams traded deuces the next five ends as P.E.I. took an 8-7 lead to the 10th. Homan scored one with hammer to force the extra end.
Earlier in the day, P.E.I. defeated Nova Scotia 7-3 in nine ends.
The Island rink, consisting of vice-skip Marie Christianson, a Nova Scotia native, second Meaghan Hughes, lead Michelle McQuaid and coach Mitch O’Shea, scored deuces in the first and third ends to take a 4-1 lead. Nova Scotia got one back in the fourth and the teams traded singles in the sixth and seventh ends. After a blanked eighth end, P.E.I. counted two in the ninth to end the contest.
