For a second time today, Lauren Ferguson’s rink which has curlers from Charlottetown, Cornwall and Crapaud curling clubs and the Lauren Lenentine Cornwall rink will meet in a section final tonight, 6:30 p.m., at the Maple Leaf Curling Club. This time it’s in the “C” final of the modified triple knock-out 2018 Pepsi P.E.I. Junior Women’s Curling championship. Ferguson (3-2) needs a win to remain in contention while a Lenentine win would give the defending champion a second trip to the Canadian championships.
Lenentine downed Ferguson 6-4 in the “B” event final Friday morning and then advanced to the “C” final with an 8-5 win over Annika Kelly from Charlottetown Friday afternoon. Ferguson earned a second crack at Lenentine with an 8-5 win Friday afternoon over Cornwall’s Sydney Howatt. She scored four deuces en route to a nine-end victory which included a stolen deuce in the third end. Lenentine picked up six points in ends five through seven – four of them stolen points – on the way to her sixth consecutive win.
The men’s “C” event final also goes at 6:30, featuring the same two teams that played in the “A” and “B” event finals. Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut will be looking for his first win of those encounters while the Alex MacFadyen rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club will be looking to remain undefeated and punch their ticket early to the New Holland Canadian Juniors which will take place in Shawinigan, Que. From January 21 to 28.
Being undefeated, MacFadyen and Lenentine would need to be beaten three times to be denied the provincial titles.
