KENSINGTON – Lexie Murphy has been selected as the Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month for May at Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School (KISH).

A Grade 11 student, the 17-year-old daughter of Kim and Bob Murphy of Kensington recently had a strong showing on the badminton court, and represented KISH on the softball diamond.

“Lexie had a great badminton season,” noted KISH badminton coach Richard Younker. “She was very dedicated to practice, and always wanted to get better.
“She played exceptional at the badminton provincials, placing second overall in singles and third overall in doubles with her partner, Tessa Murray.”

Lexie, who was recently named KISH’s female athlete of the year, also played midfield and keeper in soccer, competed in two relay running events, the shot put and long jump in track and field, and won the P.E.I. School Athletic Association senior girls’ golf championship in the fall. She also played for KISH in the annual high school hockey tournament in April.

“Lexie is a fantastic overall athlete for our school,” said KISH athletic director Brett Corcoran. “She plays many different sports, and all of them very well.”

Outside of school, Lexie played forward with the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League-champion Mid-Isle Wildcats.
Lexie plans to attend university after graduating from high school.
