CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Island curlers earned a bit of hardware at the recent Curling Canada under-25 mixed doubles event in Fredericton, N.B.

Charlottetown’s Aleya Quilty teamed with New Brunswick’s Alex Robichaud to earn the gold medal with an 11-8 extra end win over the N.B. team of Erika Cluff and Alex Peasley, thanks to their triple in the additional frame.

Meanwhile in the bronze medal game, Cornwall’s Veronica Smith and Rene Comeau of Moncton, N.B., downed Albany’s Nick Johnston and Sydney Howatt from Tryon 11-5.

In the under-18 event, Mitchell Schut (Cornwall) and Lauren Ferguson (Kensington) lost 7-1 in the bronze medal game to the N.B. duo of Melodie Forsythe and Logan Pugsley.

Both tournaments were test events.

Schut and Ferguson return to skipping their regular four-person teams at the Canadian under-18 men’s and women’s championships April 2-7 in Sherwood Park, Alta.
