MONCTON, N.B. — Daniel Hardie had a power-play goal and an assist while Matthew Welsh had a 29-save shutout to pace the Charlottetown Islanders to a 4-0 victory over the Moncton Wildcats Monday in Moncton.

Rookies Zachary Beauregard, Xavier Fortin and Cole Edwards also scored while Lukas Cormier and Nikita Alexandrov each had two assists. Hunter Drew, Noah Laaouan and Will Sirman each chipped in a helper.

Francis Leclerc allowed four goals on 20 shots in 27:06 before being replaced by Charles-Antoine Lavallee, who stopped all 11 shots he faced in relief.

Charlottetown held 3-0 and 4-0 period leads. The Islanders were 1-for-1 on the power play while killing both of Moncton’s chances with the man advantage.

The Islanders improved to 31-18-4-3 while the Wildcats are 31-19-3-4 as the teams battle for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Islanders travel to Bathurst, N.B., Thursday to play the Titan at 7 p.m. before hosting the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada Saturday at 7 p.m.
