CHARLOTTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Lauren Ferguson and Tyler Smith rinks won the women’s and men’s divisions at the Fall Fling Maritime junior cashspiel last weekend at the Silver Fox Entertainment Complex in Summerside.

The Ferguson foursome from the Cornwall, Charlottetown and Silver Fox clubs defeated Kate Paterson rink from Saint John, N.B., 9-5 after stealing a triple in the sixth end and two in the seventh.

Meanwhile, the Smith squad got past the Ethan Young team from the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, N.S., 5-3 in a low scoring final.

The Ferguson and Smith rinks each took home $700.

Ferguson’s rink also includes third Katie Shaw, second Alexis Burris and lead Lexie Murray. Coach is David Murphy.

The Smith foursome also counts third Ryan Abraham, second Alex MacFadyen, lead Ryan Lowery and coach Robbie Doherty.

Other Island teams results included the Sydney Howatt team from Cornwall finishing 3-1 but out of the women’s playoffs, while clubmates the Rachel MacLean and Emily Sanderson rinks went 1-4. 

In the men’s section, Devin Schut from Cornwall went 1-4 and the Cruz Pineau team from the host club went winless.

Twenty-four men’s and women’s teams competed at the annual event.
