CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Defencemen Zach Biggar and Jacob Squires as well as goalie Jacob Goobie are in Calgary this week for Hockey Canada’s under-17 development camp.
They are among 112 players competing for one of 66 spots for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Nov. 2-9 in Medicine Hat, Alta., and Swift Current, Sask.
All three were selected in June’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft.
Biggar, of Portage, was taken in the second round (27th overall) by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan while Charlottetown’s Squires went in the third round (39th overall) to the Memorial Cup champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Goobie, a Halifax native, went in the second round (31st overall) to the Charlottetown Islanders.
The seven-day camp includes fitness testing, classroom studies, and on- and off-ice training, in addition to nine intrasquad games.
