CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams won their final home games of the season on Monday, sweeping contests with the Dal-AC Rams.
The ’Canes won the women’s game 93-26 while the men’s squad earned a 118-90 victory in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) action.
Lexi MacInnis led the way with 25 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and six steals for the Hurricanes. Teammate Sydney Goode had 17 points, five rebounds and three assists.
In the men’s game, all five Hurricanes starters reached double figures in scoring.
Jace Colley and Roosevelt (Chicken) Whyley led the way with 29 and 28 points, respectively. Colley added 11 rebounds, five assists and a block while Whyley recorded nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks.
Holland College’s women’s team also split games earlier in the weekend, defeating Crandall 74-64 and losing 64-54 to UNBSJ.
Tekera Smith led the way against Crandall with 19 points, six rebounds and five steals. MacInnis added 15 points and seven rebounds with Ashley Plaggenhoef recording 14 points, seven assists and two steals.
MacInnis had a game-high 19 points to lead the offence for the ‘Canes against UNBSJ with Desiree Oakley adding 11.
The women are 7-13 and sixth in the ACAA standings.
The men blasted Crandall 125-73 and UNBSJ 119-72.
Whyley led the way against Crandall with 31 points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocks while Connor Therrien had 24 points and four assists.
Whyley had 32 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks against UNBSJ while Colley had 29 points and eight rebounds while Martin Campbell had the third triple-double by a men’s player since the 2010-11 season with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
Holland College improved to 20-0 and sit atop the conference.
The Hurricanes will finish up their regular seasons Saturday in Halifax when they take on the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics at 4 and 6 p.m. (women/men).
