CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Holland College Hurricanes basketball teams saw mixed results Sunday on the road against the Mount Allison Mounties as the men won 84-77 and the women lost 67-23.
In the men’s game, the Hurricanes, first-place and undefeated in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association, trailed 20-12 after the first quarter and 36-35 at the half, but had recovered enough by the end of the third to take a 60-55 edge heading into the fourth.
Jordan Holness led the ‘Canes offence with 25 points and added seven rebounds. Roosevelt Whyley chipped in a double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds), Travis Adams had 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Jace Colley netted 10 points.
The men lead the ACAA at 17-0 and are ranked first overall in the country.
On the women’s side, the Hurricanes offence struggled as the squad trailed 16-3 after the first quarter and 32-11 at halftime.
Kassie Little’s performance was a bright spot for the Hurricanes as her double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) paced the attack. Tekara Smith had six points and five rebounds, while Briontae Riley hauled in nine rebounds for the ‘Canes.
The Hurricanes fell to 5-12 on the season and sit in sixth place in the ACAA.
Both teams host the Crandall Chargers on Friday at Holland College. The women play at 6 p.m., the men at 8 p.m.
