CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Holland College Hurricanes have landed a Charlottetown native with an ability to hit the outside shot.
Will Vidito has committed to the team for the 2019-20 season.
“I feel my main strengths as a player are my shooting, with the ability to hit the three, and I feel as though I am a smart player with a high basketball IQ,” said the Charlottetown Rural student. “I have a team-first mentality and a willingness to always compete and get better.”
Hurricanes head coach Josh Whitty likes what Vidito can bring to the roster because of his smarts and outside shooting.
“He’s a dedicated student-athlete, a top-notch teammate and someone we’re excited to add to our program.”
Vidito was named an all-star this year while helping the Raiders win the Prince Edward Island School Athletic senior AAA championship. He hit 118 treys last season.
The six-foot-two guard will study business administration at Holland College.
“The program has a great reputation and I’ve heard many great things about it. I was considering other business programs, but when coach Whitty approached me in early January and the opportunity came to pursue both my academic and athletic goals, Holland College became the easy decision as it’s close to home and is an opportunity to play in front of friends and family.”
Vidito has played for P.E.I.’s under-15 and under-17 provincial teams and has made four straight national appearances. He also wore the Island colours during the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg.
The Hurricanes have won seven straight Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association championships. They went undefeated in conference play this year before finishing tied for fifth at nationals.
“When looking at the past of the men's basketball program at Holland College, I think we will be a team that will be hungry and driven to perform and bring home more championships,” Vidito said.
