CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Holland College Hurricanes women's volleyball team took care of its weekend Atlantic Collegiate Atheltic Assocaition (ACAA) business with a 3-1 victory over the Dal-AC Rams Saturday in Charlottetown.
With set scores of 25-13, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-18, Holland College moved to 4-2 in the ACAA standings, good for a third-place tie with UNBSJ.
Brittany States and Abby Hyndman each had 13 kills, while Zayley Murphy and Taylor Allen added nine and seven kills, respectively. Murphy also served up four of the ‘Canes 17 aces.
Laura Ready dished out 39 assists. Katie Wood and Taylor Boudreau-Deveaux had 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Hurricanes men’s team split contests against the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons, winning 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23) Sunday after losing 3-2 (27-25, 21-25, 22-25, 25-21, 22-20) Saturday.
Brett Butler knocked down 42 total kills in the two matches, while Nicolas Menzies dished out a record-tying 54 assists on Saturday and added 40 more in Sunday’s win.
The men (2-2) sit in a tie with UNBSJ for second place.
Both teams hit the court again Saturday and Sunday against St. Thomas in Fredericton, N.B. Game times are 5:30 (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men) Saturday, and noon (women) and 2 p.m. (men Sunday.
