CORNWALL, P.E.I. - The Holland College Hurricanes soccer teams went 2-for-2 versus the Dal-AC Rams on Saturday in Truro, N.S., as the men earned a 6-0 shutout and the women tallied a dominate 7-1 victory.
With the wins, the Hurricanes move to a league-leading 7-2-1 on the men’s side of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association standings and a third-place 7-3 mark for the women.
In the women’s game, Dal-AC got on the board first on the women’s side as Macy Penney-Cameron connected in the 17th minute.
But the Hurricanes responded with two goals from Sabrina Molnar and a single from Brittany Stafford goal to put the Hurricanes ahead 3-1 entering halftime.
“When we play like a team we are at our best. As a team, if we stay composed and keep our intensity up we will be tough to beat,” said Molnar. “The pressure is on with only two regular season games remaining. We need to take things to the next level in the final weeks of the season.”
In the second half Nicole Fergusson, Laura Wells, Jade Stewart and Ali Fahie rounded out the scoring with single goals.
Holland College trails second-place Mount Saint Vincent (8-2-1) by four points with a game in hand. The Hurricanes finish up the regular season at home on Saturday against UNBSJ and Sunday versus St. Thomas. Game times are 2 p.m. and noon, respectively, in Cornwall.
On the men’s side, Teagan Misener scored three first-half goals and that was all the offence needed as it had 3-0 edge at the half.
“We came out really strong against Dal-AC,” Misener said. “We played well together as a team and moved the ball well. It was great to score the three goals against them and help us earn another win.”
Theo Ngezahayo, James Briand and Shunya Kobayashi netted second-half markers. Keeper Brandon Lund tallied his third shutout of the season.
Holland College holds a one-point lead over St. Thomas and like the women’s team, the men end the regular campaign with home games against UNBSJ on Saturday and St. Thomas on Sunday. Start times are 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
