CORNWALL – The Western Wind won the opening game of a home-and-home series with the Mid-Isle Wildcats in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League on Wednesday night.
The Wind held period leads of 2-0 and 3-2 en route to a 5-2 victory at the APM Centre. The teams are scheduled to meet again at Credit Union Place in Summerside on Thursday at 8 p.m.
Tianna Gallant (1-1), Josee Gallant (1-1), Paige Deighan (1-1), Emma Dyer and Gracyn Handrahan accounted for the Wind’s scoring. Keira MacKendrick and Hilarie Gaudet added helpers.
Shaelynn McCardle and Maddison Thompson replied for the Matrix. Single helpers were credited to Faith Reeves, Jessica Watts and Jessica Larsen.
Talynn Banks earned the goaltending win. Emma Arsenault was between the pipes for Mid-Isle.
