SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Sherwood-Parkdale Metros and Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces had fans on the edge of their seats in Game 1 of the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League championship series Friday night.

Shawn Corney’s second goal of the game with 31 seconds remaining in the third period lifted the Metros to a 5-4 win at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown. Corney’s game-winning tally came 13 seconds after Bryden Handrahan had pulled the Aces into a 4-4 tie. Brandon Forsythe’s power-play goal with 1:04 left started the Aces’ rally from a 4-2 deficit.
Game 2 will be played at the Tignish Credit Union Arena on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Game 3 is back at the Cody Banks Arena on Monday at 7:20 p.m.
The Metros, who finished the regular season in first place on the strength of a 21-3-2 (won-lost-overtime losses) record, held period leads of 2-1 and 3-1 in the series opener.
Marc Cummiskey (1-1), Patrick Kenny and Nick Brown also scored for the Metros. Logan Toole and Will Levasseur each added two assists.
Dawson Sellick (1-1) and Curklan Fraser netted the other goals for Tignish, which completed regular-season play in second place at 20-6-0. Cameron Gillis, Oliver Smallman and Keaton Horne added single helpers.
Overall, the Aces held a slim 43-42 shots-on-goal advantage.
James Duffy was the winning goaltender. Colin Gaudette was between the pipes for Tignish.
