Wild defeats Pride 2-1 in major midget hockey

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Keiran Gallant’s power-play goal in the third period was the game-winner Friday as the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild defeated the host Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride 2-1.

Gallant added an assist while Bennett MacArthur had a goal and a helper in the New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League victory at MacLauchlan Arena. Isaac Wilson also had an assist for the winners.

Cam MacLean from Jacob Squires replied for the host Pride.

Josh Smith made 14 saves for the win while Jonah Arbing stopped 37 shots, including 16 in the opening period, for the Pride.

Kensington improved to 16-2-1 while Charlottetown is 8-10-1. The Wild host Saint John Saturday at 7:30 p.m. while the Pride travels to Moncton Sunday for a 1:30 p.m. contest with the Flyers.

The Pride announced after the game that defenceman Cole Larkin would be joining the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday. Larkin, a six-foot-two, 174-pound blue-liner from Mermaid, was traded to the Titan by the Halifax Mooseheads on Sept. 21 in the deal that sent Samuel Asselin to the Herd. Larkin was a second-round pick (34th overall) by Halifax in the 2018 draft.
