SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Western Wind won the opening game of the best-of-five championship series in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League on Thursday night.

The Wind, led by Gracyn Handrahan’s two goals and three assists off the stick of Paige Deighan, defeated the Central Storm 5-2 at Credit Union Place in Summerside.
The Storm will host Game 2 at the Bell Aliant Centre in Charlottetown on Sunday at 6:15 p.m., and the teams will return to Summerside for Game 3 on Tuesday at 6:50 p.m.
Hilarie Gaudet (1-1), Kylie Campbell and Kyrsten Coyle also scored for the Wind. Tianna Gallant and Callin Gaudet added single assists.
Jessie Campbell and Katelyn Drake replied for the Storm. Alexis Power added a single assist.
The Wind led 1-0 after the opening period, and extended that margin to 4-1 at the end of two. Talynn Banks earned the goaltending win.
