SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — It was a history-making night for Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals goaltender Dominik Tmej on Friday.

The second-year Western Capital from Bradenton, Fla., set an MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) record with his seventh shutout in one season with a 26-save effort in a 4-0 road win over the Truro Bearcats.
The previous mark of six was shared by Tmej (2017-18) and the Truro Bearcats’ Pierre-Alexander Marion (2007-08). Matt Normore of the Pictou County Crushers is right behind Tmej in this year’s shutout race with six.
Tmej, who registered back-to-back shutouts against Campbellton and Grand Falls earlier in February, sports a of 21-4-1 (won-lost-overtime losses) this season. His also has a league-best goals-against average to 2.12 and save percentage to .933.
It was the second straight shutout for the Caps after rookie Daniel Thompson stopped all 38 shots directed his way in a 9-0 win at the Edmundston Blizzard on Sunday afternoon.

Annear scores twice
Before 806 fans at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre, Jesse Annear scored twice, Sullivan Sparkes had a goal and an assist and Brodie MacArthur and Dylan Riley each chipped in with three assists as the Caps improved to 34-6-2 (won-lost-overtime losses). Ryan MacDonald netted the other Summerside goal while Jacob Hickey added a single helper.
The Caps led 1-0 after the first and second periods.
Myles Hektor faced 30 shots in goal for the Bearcats (23-17-4).
The game’s three stars were:
1. Jesse Annear (Caps), 2. Dominik Tmej (Caps), 3. Dylan Riley (Caps).
