SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals goaltender Dominik Tmej has been named the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s second star of the month for September.
The two-time defending Maritime Junior Hockey League goaltender of the year recorded two shutouts in four starts to begin the 2019-20 season. His stellar 1.32 goals-against average and .958 save percentage lead the MHL to go along with a record of 3-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses).
The 20-year-old from Bradenton, Fla., kicked off the regular season for Summerside with a 26-save shutout against the Ramblers in Amherst. Tmej’s only hiccup came in his next start, where he allowed four goals, but still made 31 saves, in a 5-2 loss in Edmundston.
Tmej bounced back strong with a 22-save shutout in Grand Falls as Summerside won 3-0. He finished the month with a 34-save performance in the Western Capitals’ home opener as Summerside edged Yarmouth 2-1 in overtime.
Logan O’Neil was named the first star of September after registering 13 points, including four goals, in six South Shore Lumberjacks’ games. Yarmouth Mariners forward Jordan McKenna, who had four goals and seven assists in seven games, was the third star.
The Caps are back in action on Friday in Grand Falls against the Rapids (1-3-1) and host the Pictou County Crushers (2-2-0) at Eastlink Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
