SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Rookie Isaac Wilson and veteran Marc-André LeCouffe each recorded four points to lead the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals to a 7-1 victory over the South Shore Lumberjacks on Thursday night.
The Maritime Junior Hockey League contest, played before 1,175 fans at Eastlink Arena, was closer than the final score would indicate. The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and the Caps took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission, before erupting for five unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes.
Wilson netted a hat trick and added an assist while LeCouffe scored once and earned three helpers. Brodie MacArthur (1-1), with the game-winning goal on the power play at 16:50 of the second period, Nick Reeves (1-1) and Jacob Arsenault also scored for the Caps. Bennett MacArthur (3), Josh MacDonald (2) and Kallum Muirhead (2) collected multiple assists.
Brandon Stone netted the lone goal for the Lumberjacks, who were the 10th-ranked team in the Canadian Junior Hockey League this week.
Winning goaltender Dominik Tmej stopped 25 of 26 shots. Morgan Kini made 24 saves on 31 shots for South Shore.
The game’s three stars were:
1. Isaac Wilson (Caps), 2. Marc-André LeCouffe (Caps), 3. Nick Reeves (Caps).
The result left both teams at 7-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). The Caps host the ninth-ranked Edmundston Blizzard (8-1-0) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
