FREDERICTON, N.B. – The St. Thomas Tommies struck for three goals in the second period Tuesday in taking Game 1 of their Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey quarter-final with the UPEI Panthers 3-1.
Olivia Reid scored 32 seconds into the middle frame. Rita Dorofeeva made it 2-0 2:09 later and Emily Oleksuk added another midway through the period. Oleksuk, Kaylee Vader, Samantha Squires and Leah Galati had assists.
Sydnee Baker replied with a power-play goal with five minutes to play. Leah Byrne had the assist.
Abby Clarke made 29 saves for the win while Megan Sullivan stopped 24 shots in the loss.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series goes Friday at 7:30 p.m. at MacLauchlan Arena B.
