Tmej notches MHL-leading fifth shutout as Western Capitals down Campbellton Tigers

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Dominik Tmej shut the door for the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals on Friday night.
Tmej turned aside all 41 shots directed his way in backstopping the Caps to a 4-0 road win over the Campbellton Tigers in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League). It was Tmej’s league-high fifth shutout of the 2018-19 regular season.
The Capitals, who improved to 30-5-1 (won-lost-overtime losses), increased their lead over the second-place Tigers (22-11-5) in the Eastlink North Division to 12 points. Summerside, the fourth-ranked team in this week’s Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings, also maintained a three-point lead over the Yarmouth Mariners (27-7-3) in the overall standings. Yarmouth defeated the Amherst Ramblers (26-10-2) by a 5-1 score Friday night.

MacArthur continues hot streak
Before 1,044 fans at the Campbellton Memorial Civic, Capitals forward and assistant captain Brodie MacArthur continued his red-hot scoring streak. MacArthur, coming off a seven-point performance in a 7-3 win over the Pictou County Crushers (16-15-6) on Wednesday night, was in on every Caps’ goal for the second game in a row. He had one goal and three helpers versus the Tigers.

MacArthur, who has 33 goals and 45 assists for a league-leading 78 points, has recorded 44 points during a 17-game point streak that he will look to extend on Saturday, when the Miramichi Timberwolves (15-21-2) visit Eastlink Arena for a 7 p.m. start.

Sullivan Sparkes also had a big game offensively, contributing one goal and two assists. Cameron Roberts and Kallum Muirhead also lit the lamp for Summerside while Jesse Annear and Kayden Peck drew other helpers.
The Caps led 1-0 after the first period, and extended that margin to 2-0 at the end of 40 minutes.
Summerside directed 38 shots at Campbellton goaltender Marc-Antoine Berube-Jalbert.
