Titan score late to defeat Islanders in QMJHL pre-season action

CORNWALL, P.E.I. —

Nicolas Kingsbury-Fournier scored the winner with 6:42 remaining as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan defeated the Charlottetown Islanders 4-2 Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pre-season action.

Anderson MacDonald had a goal and an assist for the Titan, who iced a more-experienced lineup than the host Islanders. Acadie-Bathurst had two overage players and four 19-year-olds on the ice while defenceman Jack Tucker was the lone 19-year-old dressed by Charlottetown.
The Islanders’ returning players report to camp on Sunday.

Michael Oliver and Evan MacKinnon (empty net) also scored in the win while Shawn Element had two assists. Portage defenceman Zach Biggar, a rookie with the Titan, had one shot that was deemed dangerous by the league officials.

Justin Gill on the power play and Max Chisholm scored for Charlottetown. Both were taken in June’s entry draft. Nathan Kelly, Daniel Kline and Zac Arsenault each had an assist.

Felix-Anthony Ethier stopped 13 of 14 shots for the win in relief of overage goalie Tristan Berube, who stopped eight of nine shots in 31:07. Chad Arsenault stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Islanders’ starter. Jacob Goobie allowed three goals on 22 shots and was tagged with the loss.

Charlottetown led 1-0 after the first period despite being outshot 15-8. The visitors went to the third with a 2-1 lead after outshooting the host squad 20-5 in the middle stanza.

Charlottetown was 1-for-7 on the power play and killed both of the Titan’s chances with the man advantage.

The Islanders’ (1-3) next pre-season game is Friday, Sept. 6, versus Saint John in Grand-Sault, N.B. They host Moncton Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague.
