SUMMERSIDE – Two Summerside natives were involved in transactions by National Hockey League (NHL) teams over the weekend.

The New York Islanders assigned defenceman Ryan MacKinnon to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL), and forward Alex Gallant was placed on waivers by the Vegas Golden Knights. Gallant is expected to join the Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate in Chicago, if he clears waivers.
MacKinnon, 24, had one assist in three games with the Sound Tigers last year, and nine points (2-7) in nine games with the Worcester Railers of the ECHL after recording 29 points (5-24) in 30 regular-season games with the UPEI Panthers of the Atlantic University Sport Men’s Hockey Conference.
