Charlottetown prevails in low-scoring game

CHARLOTTETOWN – Jacob Squires scored at 4:33 of overtime to give the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride a 2-1 win over the Saint John Vitos in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League on Friday night.

Nick Reeves and Alex Graham set up the game-winning goal, which improved the Pride’s record to 13-12-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Seth Morris, assisted by Graham and Ed McNeill, gave the Pride a 1-0 lead on the power play in the first period. The score remained that way until Caleb Kean evened the score for the Vitos at 17:26 of the third period.
Erik MacInnis stopped 31 of 32 shots in earning the goaltending win. The Pride directed 19 shots at Vitos goaltender Nicolas Sheehan.
Saint John dropped to 13-9-2.
Charlottetown, winners of five of six and seven of its last 10 games, visits the Fredericton Caps (7-13-3) on Sunday at 3 p.m.
