BATHURST, N.B. – Two players with ties to Summerside contributed to the Moncton Wildcats’ season-opening win in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Summerside resident and forward Jeremy McKenna and rookie defenceman Jordan Spence, who played last season with the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals of the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League), each collected assists as the Wildcats scored three goals in the final 7:14 of the third period to defeat the host Acadie-Bathurst Titan 3-1 on Thursday night.
Spence assisted on Tristan DeJong’s game-winning goal at 14:41, and McKenna, an assistant captain with the Wildcats, helped set up Mika Cyr’s empty-net goal at 18:18.
Summerside native Noah Dobson was not in the Titan’s lineup as the defenceman is currently attending the New York Islanders’ training camp.
