SOURIS – Former Summerside Western Capital Riley Smith scored once and assisted on three others for a four-point night in leading the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers to a 6-1 road win over the Eastern Maniacs at the Eastern Kings Sportsplex on Saturday night.
The win moved the Vipers into sole possession of first place in the Island Junior Hockey League. The Vipers will take a 4-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) record, and a two-point lead over the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings (3-1-0), into Sunday’s home game against the Kent Koyotes of the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League at 7 p.m.
Ryan McKenna (1-2), Riley Gallant (1-1), Logan Vandervelden, Nick Trainor and Zack MacKay also scored for the Vipers. Kyle McGuigan and Parker Ronahan each added two assists.
Dawson Palmer opened the game’s scoring for the Maniacs 2:20 into the contest.
The period scores were 2-1 and 4-1 in favour of Kensington.
Winning goaltender Cameron Visser stopped 19 of 20 shots. Noah Laybolt finished with 34 saves for the Maniacs (0-4-0).
