SUMMERSIDE – TJ Shea provided the late-game heroics for the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals on Saturday night.

The forward from Anglo Tignish scored with 24 seconds remaining in regulation time to break a 1-1 tie, and lift the Capitals to a 2-1 win over the St. Stephen Aces.

The Eastlink North Division-leading Capitals, winners of five straight games, improved to 13-3-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). The Caps trail the Yarmouth Mariners (13-3-1) by one point atop the overall standings of the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).

Before 1,187 fans at Eastlink Arena, Conor MacEachern, who opened the game’s scoring in the first period, and Cam Roberts set up the game-winning goal.
Kallum Muirhead and Kayden Peck assisted on MacEachern’s goal.
Everett Hicks, assisted by Noah Holm, tied the game for the Aces at 13:54 of the third period.

The final shots-on-goal totals were 52-26 in favour of the Capitals. Daniel Thompson earned the goaltending win over Shawn Wiranata.
