O’Leary faces must-win situation in Alberton on Wednesday

O'LEARY, P.E.I. —

The Alberton Regals are one win away from capturing the 2018-19 West Prince Senior Hockey League championship.

Morgan DesRoches scored 4:17 into double overtime to lift the Regals to a 5-4 win over the O’Leary Maroons on Sunday night. The win gives the Regals a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five final.

The Maroons now face a must-win situation in Game 4, which is scheduled for the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton, on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
At the O’Leary Community Sports Centre, Kenzie Horne netted a hat trick and Garrett Lewis added a single tally to account for the other Alberton goals. Jesse MacIntyre chipped in with three assists.
Darcy Tuplin (1-1), Mike Adams, Mike MacIsaac and Lukas Dyment replied for the Maroons. Tuplin’s goal with 5:44 remaining in the third period forced overtime.

O’Leary was in front 1-0 after the opening period, and the teams entered the second intermission tied 2-2.
Winning goaltender was Spencer Rennie, and Chase Dyment was between the pipes for O’Leary.
Referees Jonny Martin and Travis Timmons had a busy night. The Maroons were called for 11 minors, two 10-minute misconducts, one match penalty, one fighting major and one game misconduct. Alberton received seven minors, two 10-minute misconducts, one match penalty, one checking-from-behind major, one fighting major and two game misconducts.
