TYNE VALLEY, P.E.I. — Jason Smallman scored twice and assisted on another to lead the Alberton Regals to a 5-3 win over the Tyne Valley Tornadoes in a West Prince Senior Hockey League playoff game Friday night.
The Regals lead the best-of-five semifinal series, and can advance to the final with a win in Game 4 on home ice at the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
Jesse MacIntyre, Willie Gaudet and Taylor Smith also scored for Alberton, which earned its second win of the series in Tyne Valley after taking the opener 5-4 in overtime. Logan Smallman (3) and Willie Gaudet (2) had multiple-assist efforts.
Cory Ellis, TJ Campbell and Josh Darrach answered for the Tornadoes, who won Game 2 in Alberton 8-4. Evan Shea added a pair of helpers.
The Regals led 1-0 after the opening period, and the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of 40 minutes.
The final shots-on-goal totals were 37-33 in favour of Tyne Valley. Spencer Rennie earned the goaltending win over Jake Hackett.
