KENSINGTON – It was not the start to 2019 that the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild was looking for.

The Saint John Vitos struck for two goals before the game was six minutes old, and never looked back en route to posting a convincing 6-2 road victory over the Wild on Wednesday night. It was the first regulation-time loss on home ice for the Wild this season.
After posting 13 straight wins in New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League play, the Wild has now lost three of their last four games. This loss and Saturday’s 4-2 setback in a first-place showdown against the first-place Moncton Flyers, who are 20-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses), is the first time the Wild (19-5-1) has dropped back-to-back league games all season.
Kensington will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, when the Vitos return to Kensington for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff.

Two-goal effort
At Credit Union Centre, Caleb Kean’s two goals and two assists paced the Vitos, who improved to 13-9-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Connor Richard (1-1), Riley Bezeau (1-1), Jonathon Beers and Dalton Dunn also found the back of the net.
Zac Arsenault and Duncan Picketts replied for the Wild. Keiran Gallant, Will Proud, Zach Biggar and Landon Clow assisted.
The Vitos led 2-0 after the opening period, and extended that margin to 4-1 following 40 minutes.
Jeremi Delaquis earned the goaltending win over Josh Smith.
The Vitos were assessed nine minor penalties, one double minor for head contact and eight 10-minute misconducts. The Wild picked up 10 minors and seven 10-minute misconducts.
