SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Nick Reeves’s first-ever regular-season goal as a Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capital was a big one.

The Summerside native scored 6:28 into the first period and that goal stood up as the game-winner as the Caps went on to blank the Grand Falls Rapids 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Caps goaltender Dominik Tmej turned in a 22-save performance to earn his second shutout of the 2019-20 Maritime Junior Hockey League campaign. Tmej stopped all 26 shots he faced in a season-opening 4-0 decision over the Amherst Ramblers on Sept. 14.
Sunday’s result gave the Caps two wins in three games over a three-day stretch in New Brunswick. The Caps’ weekend also included a 7-2 win over the Fredericton Red Wings on Saturday night and a 5-2 loss to the Edmundston Blizzard on Friday evening.
The Caps improved to 3-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) while the Rapids fell to 0-3-0.
Before 917 fans at the E&P Sénéchal Centre, the Capitals dominated on the shots-on-goal clock. Overall, the Caps outshot the Rapids 49-22, including 21-1 and 17-12 advantages in the first two periods. Tyriq Outen made 46 saves for the Rapids.
Josh MacDonald gave the Caps a 2-0 lead at 12:12 of the opening period. The score would remain 2-0 until Kallum Muirhead closed out the game’s scoring at 12:01. Zach Biggar, Ed McNeill, Cam Roberts, Brodie MacArthur, Isaac Wilson and Marc-Andre LeCouffe chipped in with assists.
The Caps were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Rapids went 0-for-3.
The game’s three stars were:
1. Kallum Muirhead (Caps), 2. Tyriq Outen (Rapids), 3. Marc-Andre LeCouffe.
The Caps are back on the road Thursday to take on the Miramichi Timberwolves (0-3-0) at 7 p.m. The Caps’ home opener is scheduled for Eastlink Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Yarmouth Mariners (4-1-0) will provide the opposition.
