ABRAM-VILLAGE – Sole possession of first place could be on the line at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Sunday afternoon.
That’s when the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings will host the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers in a 2:15 p.m. start.
The two arch-rivals enter weekend play tied for first place in the Island Junior Hockey League with 10 points each. Kensington is 5-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) while the Red Wings are 5-2-0.
However, before the always-anticipated showdown on Sunday, both the Vipers and Red Wings will play inter-locking road games against New Brunswick Junior Hockey League teams on Saturday. The Red Wings travel to Cocagne, N.B., to take on the Kent Koyotes while the Vipers will visit the Moncton Vitos.
The Red Wings are expecting a full team effort again like they had in Sunday’s 7-1 decision at home over the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros (4-5-0).
A media release issued by the Red Wings notes the team has been pleased with the play of forward Alex Morrissey as of late, and he will be counted on to continue contributing to a balanced attack.
